VECTOR Committees each have a specific function within our organization. Committees interact in order to spread the work around and ensure that one group doesn't end up doing the bulk of the work. VECTOR members are encouraged to join committees even if they do not have any experience in that discipline. This allows members to learn from each other and promotes our learning & teaching philosophy. Click on the committee heading to email the committee Chair.
Membership - Responsible for maintaining membership records, including radio licence level, training courses taken and participation in VECTOR activities. Ensures that new member applications are processed and tracked. Maintains new members orientation package. Training & Exercises - Arranges our training and exercises. Training is anything that helps our members provide the assistance needed by the various agencies and organizations we support. Our exercises help us to practice what we learn. Our exercises are often combined with other organizations exercises.
CERV - Our Communications Emergency Response Vehicle must be ready to be deployed at all times. This committee is responsible for the maintenance, upgrades and repairs as well as training our members to operate in the CERV. Driver, Station Manager and ESS training is also required to make this a functional unit. IT Services - Amateur Radio, much like any other organization, relies on Information Technology and our IT Services committee keeps our computers and networks functioning. Amateur Radio has also been in the forefront of IT experiments such as Airmail (email over Amateur Radio frequencies) which VECTOR relies on to keep our partner agencies connected in the event of a wide area network outage.
Field Day - Field Day is important to VECTOR as it allows us to practice setting up a field operation. While VECTOR's primary function is a service organization, we also participate is other 'HAM' activities, such as Field Day. Our Field Day focus is on training and we encourage new Amateur Radio Operators to join us to experience 'field operations' and learn or practice new skills. Radio Room & Equipment - Without a properly functioning Radio Room or equipment, we would not be able to provide the services that we do. Our Radio Room and Equipment committee has the important task of maintaining and upgrading our Radio Room and ensuring our equipment is in top working condition.
Public Events - VECTOR is involved in many high profile public events such as the, Vancouver Marathon and the Rogers Santa Claus Parade to name a few. Our Public Events committee is responsible for contacting event organizers and arranging for Amateur Radio Volunteers to assist in the public safety communications. The Emergency Services (Police, Fire and Ambulance) count on our volunteers to provide vital information at these events which assists in coordinating emergency response to the participants and the public. Net Operations - Most of the events and exercise that Amateur Radio participates in requires Net Control Operators to coordinate the radio communications. Net Control is a skill that takes time to develop and our Net Operations Committee ensures that our members have the opportunity to learn net control skills. VECTOR also runs a weekly net (every Wednesday at 2000 hrs on VE7RPT, except the last Wednesday of the month) which allows amateur radio operators throughout the Metro Vancouver area to check in to confirm and test radio communications equipment.
Emergencies & Disasters - Emergencies and disasters can strike at any time. This committee ensures our members and their families are prepared to be self sufficient so our members are able to be of assistance in the time of need. Social - VECTOR volunteers spend hundreds of hours every year training, practicing and preparing to provide assistance in times of need. Our social committee ensures that we also have time to sit back and relax and enjoy each others company.
