Net Operations

Net Operations serve two purposes. First, our weekly Nets allow Amateur Radio Operators to ensure the proper function of their radio equipment by checking into the net.

Second, the weekly nets give Amateur Radio Operators the opportunity to develop the skills needed to be an effective and efficient Net Control Operator. Net Control Operators require a specific skill set that is not the normal 'talking on the radio' that Amateur Radio Operators are most familiar with.

Since VECTOR's primary function is to provide backup Emergency Communications support to the City of Vancouver and it's various agencies, during an activation we might need anywhere from 3 to as many as 50 experienced Net Control Operators.

VECTOR Nets
VECTOR's weekly net is conducted on the VE7TEL repeater (145.170 MHz with an off-set of -600 kHz ), every Wednesday at 20:00 hrs. This net is a controlled net which follows a regular format.

Amateur Radio Operators that have limited or no Net Control Operator experience are invited to participate in a mentoring environment with our experienced Net Control Operators. We offer this experience during our weekly nets, and during our Public Event Net Control Operations such as the Celebration of Light and the various Marathons. Additional mentoring opportunities are available as part of the various Emergency Communications exercises held throughout the year.

Please contact our Net Operations Committee Director for more information or to sign up as a Net Control Operator or trainee.
